Chronic Satisfaction is the debut album from LA Rockers Acidic. It fuses a manner of indie rock with a harder stadium rock edge. The macho aspect to their music could be a put off for some, but could be what attracts others.

I was disappointed with this album. It started well, but rather than being a cohesive whole, it just rattled off uninspiring hit after uninspiring hit. Considering this is a band that is supposed to be straying from the norm, they seem rather focussed on conventional aspects of rock.

“Uninspired” is perhaps the highlight of the album, which is a shame, because I should have liked to become involved in the sound of a band that could sustain high energy, whilst maintaining interest throughout the album with dynamic and lyrical variation. As much as anything else, the voice doesn’t vary nearly enough for a full length album.

There are some high points however. “Goodbye” is a reminder of just how tight this band is, with a strong pop punk beginning, segueing into harder rock, with the band moving in step.  “The Brave” has a backing that I really liked, but with that same vocal aspect which made it difficult to like; it did grow on me though, and it is probably my second favourite on the album.

“Ironic Dreams” is a good end to this album. It’s sufficiently jarring for an album closer, and it has more energy than any of the others. It does seem to me to be a little contrived, though, as well as having no significant superiority, or variation, from the rest of the album.

While there is no doubt in my mind that the album is well produced and well thought out, it did seem lacking in creative value. This relatively short album (30 mins) seems to drag on for a lot longer than it should, and it is to the bands discredit that at points I was unable to discern many of the songs on the album from others. I can only give this fairly poor album a 5/10.
