Where to start. It's so sad that by radio standards last Friday night would be considered alt.Country, nothing I heard is anything but straight up country from the heart. Some of you may have seen my blog that was addressed to country music radio. This show is exactly what I was talking about. Joe Worrell and the Last Free Exit Band and Jason Boland are traditional country artists that do not compromise.
I dare country music radio to play more of this kind of music.
Joe Worrell plays all over the mid-west. Always a class act, Joe and the band always take time for the Fans. Playing a seamless mix of original and cover songs, the crowd always has a good time when Joe is onstage. (I will have an interview with Joe online soon so you can get to know him better) In this part of the country Chris Ledoux is a country music god. Not many bands have the balls to take “8 Second Ride” and make it his own, not only did it work it frikken rocked. Joe’s new album comes out this week you can hear it on his website.
Jason Boland looks (just a bit shorter) and sounds like a young Alan Jackson . Not a cookie cutter singer that fills the airwaves of country music nowadays, Jason is true to his cowboy music. Right from the start Jason stood on stage and without singing a note and had the attention of everyone in the room. Strumming his guitar like a troubadour of old, Jason was as good as any artist I have seen on the stage. His music is straight out of the mountains, high plaines and roads of the west. I think even Hank would enjoy this show.
A few years back Jason ruptured a vocal chord and it almost ended his career. It may have slowed his pace, maybe changed his style a bit but with 1000 happy back up singers you really couldn’t tell. Everyone had a good time and in the end that’s what matter isn’t it?
